Sonning Common move top

THE Sonning Common and Peppard A team hit top spot in the Reading and District Table Tennis League Division 1 table as they beat their C team 9-1. Only Danny Dockree contributed for the C team as he edged out Jason Roberts 6-11, 13-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 while Ed Lush and Gary Morgan remained untroubled for the A team. Tim Raby and Tom Astle both managed wins against Kingfisher reserve Adrian Cretu, but the B team still lost 8-2 against second placed Kingfisher A. Malcolm Gregory’s win against Nick Sears helped the D team avoid the whitewash as they were defeated 9-1 at Sonning Sports A, Nigel Maltby came close to giving them another win when losing out to Paul Savage 11-6, 7-11, 11-3, 9-11, 12-10. In Division 3 the E team’s good recent run continued, Jim Warren and Jeremy Willis both getting hat-tricks as they beat Tilehurst Methodists B 7-3.

The F team remain second in Division 4 after battling hard to defeat Our Lady of Peace F 7-3, Gerry Bacon seeing his 100 per cent record ended by OLOP’s Gopi Ponnapolli 11-8, 7-11, 8-11, 9-11.
